Avis has been an active potter for more than 45 years, making hundreds of functional and decorative pieces each year, which are displayed and enjoyed in homes around the world. Images of her pottery are in two recently published books. She is represented in the permanent collection of the Slater Museum in Norwich CT.

Inspiration comes to Avis from the traditions of pottery since the earliest civilizations made pots and by the fact she comes from a family that made things and had a respect for objects handmade. “Defining and refining the objects I make brings meaning and joy to life that is both compelling and mysterious,” Avis says. “Each object finished is the starting point for the next object’s beginning.”

Other than Expressions, Avis can be found at her home studio, Honey Hill Pottery in Granby, CT. The weekend after Columbus Day she is exhibiting at the Granby Artists Open Studio Tour. Avis is a founding member of Granby Artists Association.
