For as long as I can remember I have loved pottery- the different forms, vessel use, glaze colors and how it feels in your hand.
My first experience with clay was during my freshman year of college where I learned a lot about hand building and threw my first piece on a kick wheel. I love the feel of the clay and the therapeutic/meditative state you are in while creating.
I rediscovered my love of pottery again in 2015 at Expressions Studio first as a student, then renter, and current member. The studio is a community that proves to be a continuous learning environment. There is always a new skill to master, technique to learn, or glaze to try. “Playing in the mud” is good for the mind and soul.
My pottery pieces include everyday functional forms, decorative, and sculptural. I use brown and white clay and glaze using earth tones fired in a cone 10 kiln. These pieces ARE food, microwave and dishwasher safe.
I also make jewelry pieces and ornaments with beautiful shiny tones, crackle glazes or horse hair in a Raku fire. Raku is truly a favorite of mine because it’s total hands on. The firing is done outside in a semi controlled atmospheric environment. This process relies on the kiln temperature, weather and temp that day, combustibles used, and amount of smoke in the can. It’s like a gift at every firing!
Raku is NOT food safe and cannot hold water. It is for decorative purposes only.
You can purchase my pieces at Expressions Studio Gallery in East Granby and at small community day markets.
May each pottery piece speak to you through its individual beauty and tactile feel in your hand.
